Richard Basangwa struck again as NEC FC maintained their perfect start to the Uganda Premier League season with a 3-1 win over Lugazi FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half, Basangwa broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, reacting quickly to a loose ball in the box before calmly beating Tonny Kyamera.

NEC had dominated the opening half but lacked the finish. Enrique Lubwama went close in the 10th minute, while Pius Obuya fired just over the bar in the 33rd minute.

Kyamera then denied James Jarieko with a fine save just before halftime to keep Lugazi level.

But NEC returned from the break with more purpose. Four minutes after Basangwa’s opener, Ronald Media punished a mistake by Kyamera to make it 2-0.

Media struck again in the 80th minute, squeezing his effort inside the near post to put NEC firmly in control.

Lugazi pulled one back four minutes later through Richard Ayiko, who headed home, but NEC held on comfortably for their second win in two games.

The result lifts NEC to six points, while Lugazi must regroup before their next game against Entebbe UPPC at Hamz Stadium on September 9.

NEC travel to Mbarara City on September 8.
