Lugazi Football Club have balanced the future with experience after signing attacking midfielder Christopher Birungi and tying down captain Richard Ayiko ahead of the new Uganda Premier League season.
The club completed the signing of Birungi from Buganda Regional League side Nyendo FC on a four-year contract, making him Lugazi’s third arrival of the transfer window after Louis Anguti Amagu and Jamaldin Buchochera.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Christopher Birungi from Nyendo FC. Birungi has signed a four-year contract with the club,” the club said.
Birungi joins after spells with Kasese New Villa, Ntonda, Nyamityobora and Buwambo United. The creative midfielder will be looking to make the step up after spending much of his career in Uganda’s lower divisions.
While strengthening the squad, Lugazi have also ensured they retain one of their most influential players. Club captain Richard Ayiko has signed a new two-year contract after his previous deal expired at the end of last season.

“Following the expiry of his contract at the end of last season, we are excited to announce that team captain Richard Ayiko has signed a new two-year contract,” Lugazi announced.
Ayiko scored once in 26 league appearances last season, but his value goes beyond goals. The experienced midfielder played a key role in Lugazi’s promotion to the top flight two years ago and has continued to lead the team as they established themselves in the Uganda Premier League.
The club also extended the contract of long-serving midfielder Moses Buga by one year. Buga has been with Lugazi since 2020 and remains an important member of the squad.
