United States selected to host the expanded FIFA Club World Cup 205

The Federation of International Football Association ( FIFA), through their Council has unanimously appointed United States of America as the host of the new a d expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

This was revealed on Friday in the video conference meeting hosted in Switzerland at the Home of FIFA.

According to FIFA, this decision was reached based on the United States’ position as a proven leader in staging global events and because it would allow FIFA to maximize synergies with the delivery of the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

“The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be the pinnacle of elite professional men’s club football, and with the required infrastructure in place together with a massive local interest, the United States is the ideal host to kick off this new, global tournament,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Friday.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 teams, dramatic change from the current seven-team tournament.

The initial decision to revise the format of the competition to a 32-team tournament that takes place every four years was taken by the FIFA Council in December 2022, and after meeting in advance of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, the body laid out how the field will be determined for the 2025 tournament.

Clubs from all six continents are assured of participating in the inaugural expanded 2025 tournament. UEFA will be represented by 12 teams, CAF, AFC and CONCACAF by four teams each,CONMEBOL by six teams while the host country will have one extra allocation.
