Mubiru does it again, picks gold at APA world qualifiers in Connecticut, USA
Ugandan Powerlifter Roy Mubiru won gold at the APA World qualifiers in Connecticut, USA, missing out on his target weight lifts by just 172kgs.
Mubiru who is Uganda’s powerlifting champion and Africa’s best won Gold gold at the April 17th, 2021 APA world champion qualifiers after beating off competition in the age group classes of 40-44 years masters tested raw and weight category 125-130kgs, after putting on more three kilograms to his usual 125kgs.
He performed well lifts in the deadlift, which is his personal best, lifting a total of 1828kgs in three styles, squat, bench press and deadlift, although he missed out on his earlier target of lifting 2,000kgs in total by just 172kgs.
In an interview with his Manager Frank Kahesi, a happy Mubiru was full of thanks to everyone that supported him towards this achievement.
“Though I missed out on my target of lifting a total of 2000kgs at the competition, I did good deadlifts,” he said.
“I am grateful to my manager, Frank Kaheesi and the great man of God, prophet Robert Muwanguzi of the Life Havens Christian Ministries, Mukono, who kept encouraging me and praying for me as well,” he added.
Mubiru also thanked the media for their continued support, something he believes is pushing the sport high.
The American powerlifting championships were run in multiple locations simultaneously due to the varying state-travel restrictions, and covid policy differences in the US.
Amongst the locations where the event took place are; Clinton, Missouri – Oakville, Connecticut, and West Virginia, and doubled as Qualifier to 2021 World Cup of powerlifting in Quebec city, Canada.
