The Uganda Skateboard national team will represent the country at the World Skateboarding Tour San Juan Park 2023 in Argentina, San Juan.
The tour will kick-off on the 21st of May – 28th May 2023. It will help the team in their quest of qualification in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, France.
The selected team includes senior skateboarders like Serunjogi Rashid, Kanyinke Travor, Mugisha Ibrahim, Nakigozi Janet Francis, Bukenya Brian, Muwonge Calvin, Mwesigwa Douglas
The above team was chosen from the Uganda Skateboard Championship that was organized in Mukono this year.
The Uganda Skating Federation President after that competition singled out the expensive equipment as one of the reasons why the Ugandan team didn’t perform to the expectation.
“Our skaters did not perform to their expectations because they had inferior skates compared to what the Kenyans had.
But we are working towards getting them ahead of the world championships. Good skates cost between $300-1000 (sh1m-3.6m) each,” Ddungu noted.
Away from the major issue of expensive equipment, the team is in good shape as they wait on their VISAS.
