Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi cemented their legacy in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) history books with a dominant 3-0 win over St. Lawrence University in the 2024/25 grand finale held at the iconic Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

It was a dazzling performance from the Nkozi-based side, who came into the final as the only unbeaten team in the tournament and they lived up to every bit of that billing.

Goals from Calvin Peter Emayu, Crispus Sseruwunge, and Giu Obedi capped off a memorable afternoon in front of a jubilant crowd.

Emayu broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark, sending the UMU faithful into a frenzy under the bright Sunday sun.

With halftime approaching, Sseruwunge doubled the lead with a sharp finish, giving UMU a comfortable 2-0 cushion at the break.

If St. Lawrence harbored any hopes of a comeback, they were swiftly dashed early in the second half.

Giu Obedi added a third for UMU, putting the result beyond reach and sealing what would be a flawless campaign for the champions.

This marks Uganda Martyrs’ third UFL crown, adding to their previous triumphs in 2017 and 2022, both of which also came against familiar rivals.

Fittingly, their latest conquest once again came at the expense of St. Lawrence, who have now lost all three of their finals appearances: to UCU in 2019 and to UMU in both 2022 and 2025.

The win elevates Uganda Martyrs University above MUBS and Kampala University, both of whom have two titles, making UMU the most successful team in UFL history.

Their journey to the top has been marked by resilience, tactical brilliance, and an unyielding team spirit.

Earlier in the day, Bugema University claimed third place after a narrow 1-0 victory over the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in the playoff match.

As the final whistle blew and the UMU supporters erupted in celebration, it was clear that the day and the season belonged to Uganda Martyrs University.

A perfect campaign, a historic third title, and a performance that will be remembered for years to come.
