Fauzia Najjemba and Juliet Nalukenge scored against Kenya in their final game of the championship – a title decider today at the Njeru Technical center to earn hosts Uganda a vital 2-0 win that helped them lift the 1st CECAFA U17 girls championship.
Uganda started the game under pressure from Tanzania who had registered an emphatic 10-0 win against Djibouti to go top of the table and any result less than 3 points for Uganda would mean a failed campaign for the Ayub Khalifa coached side in front of a home crowd.
A 2-0 win for Uganda ensured the Girls finished top of the standings with 13 points overtaking Tanzania who came dropped to second at 11 points.
Tanzania’s Aisha Khamis Masaka emerged the tournament’s top scorer with 14 goals, 4 ahead of Juliet Nalukenge who scored 10.
Uganda’s Girls were the sharpshooters in the round-robin tournament finishing scoring 28 goals and letting in only 1 while Djibouti was the worst performer conceding 47 goals and scoring only 1.
The reigning FUFA player of the year Juliet Nalukenge was voted MVP for the tournament while another Ugandan, Daphine Nyayenga was awarded the best goalkeeper’s award.
