Uganda International Badminton Challenge launched

Uganda International Challenge Badminton Championship was launched today on the 21st February, 2024 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Forty nine (49) countries from all over the world are taking part in this tournament with players aiming to collect points for Paris 2024 Olympic Qualification.

This is the second Olympic qualifier on the African continent before the All Africa games as we edge closer to the end of the qualification window on 28th April 2024, Uganda’s sensation Fadilah Shamika still has high chances.

Ranked as Africa’s top seed, Fadilah unfortunately missed the recent Uber Cup Finals in Egypt due to injury but she promises to be in great shape.

“Injuries are unavoidable, I twisted my ankle twice but I hope to play in the in the Uganda International Challenger series.”

Her duo with Tracy Naluwooza not forgetting Gladys Mbabazi and Husna Kobugabe who also still have qualification chances in the doubles.

Ninety seven (97) Ugandan players are set to participate as part of the total 450 players in this tournament.

“As the Uganda Olympic Committee, we are happy with the Uganda Badminton Federation. Being able to host all these 49 countries here.” said Donald Rukare – President Uganda Olympic Committee who presided over the tournament opening
