Vipers SC Vs Kitara FC – St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende – 7:00 pm

As the 2024/25 football season approaches its climax, Vipers SC and Kitara FC lock horns once again—this time in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semi-finals at St. Mary’s Stadium,Kitende.

A spot in the final is on the line with both teams chasing glory, tonight’s clash promises intensity, passion, and drama as Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC will be eager to deny league leaders hunt for the double.

At the start of the season, Vipers’ fate for silverware looked uncertain but with a resurgence that has propelled them to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings—with four matches to go and now a place in their Uganda Cup semi-final see’s them on the double hunt after turning their campaign around.

A hard-fought victory over rivals SC Villa in the quarterfinals has set the tone. Now, assistant coach Fred Muhumuza is determined to see a domestic double at Kitende.

“We have a busy month and a crowded fixture, but we have a squad that can manoeuvre through. This is a different competition and Kitara is a tough opponent, but we’ll give it our all,” Muhumuza said after Friday’s training session.

Defending champions Kitara FC have once again defied the odds to reach the last four, edging out BUL FC in a dramatic quarterfinal. While this is only their second-ever appearance at this stage, they arrive with confidence and ambition.

Coach Wasswa Bbosa, whose side knocked out Vipers in last year’s competition in the quarterfinals via penalties after a 2-2 draw, believes they can repeat the feat.

“We respect Vipers, but this is the semi-final. We are defending champions and the team is ready for the task ahead,” Bbosa declared.

The return of forwards George Ssenkaaba and Patrick Kaddu from suspension, along with defender Benjamin Nyakoojo’s recovery from injury, gives Kitara a timely boost ahead of the showdown.

In football, losing a semi-final is often said to be the most painful defeat—so close to the final, yet so far. Both sides know what’s at stake.

For Vipers, history and experience are on their side. For Kitara, it’s a chance to make history again. The first leg at Kitende is more than just a football match—it’s a battle of pride, determination, and ambition.

This will be the second meeting between the two sides this season, the first having come earlier in the league at Kitende. That familiarity adds another layer to an already intense contest.

As the road to Kadiba Stadium, the venue of this year’s final narrows, tonight’s encounter could very well set the tone for who ultimately lifts the trophy.
