KCCA FC became the first team to seal a place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals after edging Kaaro Karungi 2-1 in a tightly contested quarterfinal encounter held at Kyamate Playgrounds.

The Kasasiro Boys bounced back from a recent dip in league form, showing resilience and quality to keep their silverware hopes alive in the domestic cup competition. Goals from Derrick Nsibambi and Arafat Usama in either half were enough to see off the spirited hosts.

KCCA FC got off to a flying start when Nsibambi found the back of the net just three minutes into the match, giving the visitors early control. However, Kaaro Karungi responded well and came out strong after the break, equalising through Clinton Kamugisha in the 48th minute. The second half began under heavy rain, causing a brief delay and adding more tension to the fixture.

Despite the setback, Jackson Magera’s side regained their composure. Just 11 minutes after the equaliser, Arafat Usama calmly restored KCCA’s lead in the 59th minute with a composed finish that eventually proved to be the match-winner.

The victory marks a much-needed return to winning ways for KCCA, who had gone three league games without a win. With this hard-fought triumph, they advance to the semifinals and keep their hopes alive for a season-defining cup triumph.

Uganda Cup action continues, with defending champions Kitara FC set to face BUL FC in what promises to be a thrilling clash. Meanwhile, SC Villa will travel to face Vipers SC in another quarterfinal showdown on Sunday.

KCCA FC’s performance against Kaaro Karungi not only showcases their determination but also sends a strong message to the remaining contenders: the Kasasiro Boys are back in the hunt.
