Uganda Boxing Champions League: Kibira to take on Mutaasa in week 9 main fight

Owen Kibira is set to return action in week 9 of the Uganda Boxing Champions League on Saturday 14th September 2024 when he will take on Mutaasa Ashiraf from Kibuli in a Light middle weight contest at Club Obligato along Kampala- Bombo road.

The two recently met in the National Open Boxing Championship when Owen Kibira had just stepped up his weight and this will be their first in the Champions League.

“This is going to be the second time I play against Ashraf but my first in the Champions League, earlier this year in the National Open when I had just stepped up my weight” Owen affirmed during the weigh in at Club Obligato

“I am glad I was one of the people he looked up to entering the boxing world, he is a very good boxer and I like the way he dominates his opponents, however every one has his own style and is trained to win coming into a fight”

“For my fans, i don’t usually promise but expect the best from me you can expect something like what happened in the previous fight, in round 1,2,3 or even at the end this is boxing you come to stop someone but remember they also come to do the same.”

Kibira “The Matrix” who hails from Lukanga Boxing Club recently lightened up the Arena after knocking down Serugo Bashir from Zebra Boxing Club seconds into the first round and hopes to do the same to Mutaasa.

On the otherside, Mutajjazi’s Mutaasa will hope to have the same performance he had in check against Broline Kimbugwe in week 6 as he plays he’s third fight of this season.

In his interview Mutaasa promised to do his best during the bout;

“Owen is a good fighter but he’s outgoing, I have been training well and only hope to do my best for both myself and my fans however much I know that not many know something I expected” he said

In the other bouts of the day, Kasim Murungi from East Coast Boxing Club will take on UPDF’s James Japyem while Derrick Mubiru from Namugoona Boxing who lost to Murungi earlier is expected to take on Kololo’s Mawanda Frank, all bouts from the Feather weight 57kgs Elite category

For the Bantamweight 54Kgs Elite category, COBAP’s rapid boxer Balyegesa Benon will take on Ochen Samuel from KCCA as Mudenya Joel from East Coast boxes out with Lukanga’s Shafick Ssentamu.
