Uganda Boxing Champions League: Kibira completes second stop in season three

Owen Kibira “The Matrix” who hails from Lukanga Boxing Club managed lighten up Club Obligato on Saturday with splendid performance against Mutajjazi’s Ashraf Mutaasa in the week 9 main fight of the Uganda Boxing Champions League.

This was a case of who has got more experience between the two boxers and Kibira passed the test as he won the Elite 71Kgs contest after a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in Round 3 when Mutaasa was sighted bleeding from the upper part of the eye (eye brow) after a string of rapid punches that be fell him.

However the young disciplined Kibuli boxer who tries his best to balance books with Boxing managed to inhale the decision from the referee with respect.

When we reached out to him, his first words were;

” I don’t know why the referee stopped the contest” he said

“I felt I could continue but that was the decision and I respect it therefore I will go back and work better with intent to correct my mistakes” he concluded

This was Mutaasa’s third fight in the ongoing season 3 as he has only won once and lost the other two.

For Owen Kibira, this is the second time in the season his fights haven’t gone to Round Five (5). The exquisite boxer knocked down Serugo Bashir from Zebra Boxing Club seconds into the first round same fashion like he did to Mutaasa however much it took longer this time.

During the fight, there was an incident that arose mixed emotions with in the crowds after famous TikTok star Napi stormed the ring in Round One with one fan labeling him as “MAD”

“Omulalu anonya kii mu ring?” he asked a statement in the Luganda language that means what is the Mad man looking for in the ring?. This got some of his peers laughing since they knew the TikTok sensation.

In a Bantam weight 54Kgs Elite contest, Belyegesa Benon entertained the crowds that were in passionate support of him as he managed to beat Ochien Samuel from KCCA.

This bout ended 4:1 split in favour of the Kampala High student who hails from COBAP Boxing Club in Lubya.

Before Batte Nuhu who also comes from Cobap managed to win 4:3 split against Kanabi Alex of KCCA BC in the Elite 67Kgs despite his look of dissatisfaction.

In the Youth Featherweight 57kgs contest Ouma Aron (Sparks BC) won 4:1 split against Wasswa Jonah (Namungoona BC)

Sebukimr Arafat (Mutajjazi BC) won 5:0 unanimous against Kakyoma Garvin (Gideon BC) in the Junior 50Kgs

In a Women contest, Katushabe Angel (Univ.Of Pain BC) won after a RSC round 3 decision against Muduwa Brenda (Cobap BC) Elite bantamweight 54Kgs

Adriko Jimmy (KCCA BC) too won by RSC in round 5 against Kyeyune Mathias (Lukanga BC) in the Elite 60Kgs

For Murungi Kassim (EastCoast BC), he won 5:0 unanimous against Japyem James (UPDF BC) in the Elite Featherweight 57Kgs.

The Uganda Boxing Champions League is the only tournament where Boxers are chosen to represent the Uganda Boxing National team, the Bombers.

Away from the fighters, Shakib Lutaaya, a reknown Kampala socialite managed to make his way to Obligato with his opponent JK Kazoora alongside Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi with a purpose of letting people know about their Corporate fight on the 12th October(next month) at the NCS Lugogo Arena.

The Uganda Boxing Champions League season 3, week 10 will return on Saturday 28th September just like Matovu Ukasha who will be in the main fight.
