UFL: Kyambogo defeat Kabonge’s UniK to go top of group A

Kyambogo University  put 4 goals past Allan Kabonge’s University of Kisubi (UniK) in a University Football League game played in Kisubi. Goals from Daniel Odyek, Tugume Teanan, Nabaasa Emma and Sekidde Robert were enough to inflict defeat on Unik and propel Kyambogo to the top of group A bettering Kabale University on goal difference.

The home side was better in the first minutes of the game but failed to capitalize on the chances they created. Lawrence Kateregga had an opportunity to put the hosts ahead but failed to put the ball past Kyambogo goalie Kawooya Ivan.

Daniel Odyek put the visitors ahead in the 25th minute with a brilliant free-kick at the edge of the box.

Kabonge’s boys pressed for an equalizer but Kateregga and his team weren’t clinical enough in front of goal, failing to put the ball past Kawooya who had a wonderful day in goal.

As the first half was coming to an end , Kateregga committed a reckless foul on Emma Ogwang just outside the box which gifted Kyambogo their second from the resulting free kick that Tugume Teanan headed-in.

The game went into a break with Kyambogo holding a 2 goals lead over the hosts.

In the second stanza, UniK pressed high for a goal but they were just as wasteful as they were in the first half including moments when Kawooya denied Francis Mbaziira and Arnold Setuba a break through.

In the 79th minute, UniK succumbed to a third goal as a result of poor marking when Robert Sekidde’s effort beat the goalkeeper and went in.

Emma Nabaasa sealed the victory adding his name to the scoresheet in the 90th minute of the game.

University of Kisubi has now lost all 3 games played. This was Allan Kabonge’s first game in charge of University of Kisubi.
