Nick Natuhereza and David Deng Kongor were both ejected as UCU Canons stormed past six-time defending champions City Oilers in NBL finals playoffs game I at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

The regular season leaders outclassed City Oilers 67-59 on Wednesday night to clinch game I of the best of seven series.

Titus Lual and Chuma Fadhili came out all guns blazing on the night as the pair both recorded 26 points and coupled that with 24 rebounds.

Titus finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Chuma Fadhili notched in a double-double(11 points and 15 rebounds)

Teammates Fayad Baale and Isaiah Mabeng Ateer also came up with double-figure points as UCU Canons recorded an 8 points win.

Three City Oilers players also had double-figure points but awful shooting in the first half cost the defending champions a crucial start to the final.

James Okello hit in 17 points, Drileba had 15 points While Laundry Ndikumana managed only 10 points for the losing oilers.

Referee Baker Kyambadde Mandy sent off Canons coach Nicholas Natuhereza and forward David Deng Kongor.

Natuhereza was automatically ejected with two minutes remaining in the second quarter for showing his dissatisfaction with Mandy while Kongor received his second technical foul after fouling Drileba.

City Oilers will hope to level series in game 2 on Friday night at Lugogo before game 3 comes on Sunday evening.

The rest of the 4 games will be played earlier next year to enable City Oilers to prepare for BAL qualifiers scheduled for next month in Rwanda.
