U20 World Athletics Championships: Uganda Eyes third medal on Day 3

Today, team Uganda has Bentalin Yeko and Keziah Chebet in heat 1 and 2 respectively of the women’s 3,000m from which the top eight will go through to the finals slated for tomorrow 30th August.

Bentalin Yeko was Uganda’s best finisher at the World Athletics U20 Championship 6km race, Bathurst last year after settling 14th in a race that was won by Senayet Getachew of Ethiopia

And only this performance is set to motivate her to winning a medal for Uganda as she also empowers teammate Keizah Chebet.

Titus Musua and Herbert Kibet will be eyeing Uganda’s 3rd medal at the tournament or looking to make it four as they take part in the men’s 3000m final during the afternoon session at 6:17pm.

Day2 was also well spent; In the morning session, Hosea Chemutai made it through to the men’s 3000m Steeplechase final after finishing 5th in heat 1, the top 8 from each heat where assured of qualification.

During the afternoon session Uganda’s lone representative in the men’s 1500m Jacob Sande sneaked into the finals with a 5th placed finish in heat 3, only the first five from each heat were assured of qualification, Samuel Simba Cherop was initially listed to take part but didn’t.

Both finals will take place on the closing day of the tournament, 31st August.
