Travel challenges force FUFA to cancel Uganda Cranes’ trip to UAE

Flight travel challenges have forced the Federation of Uganda Football Association ( FUFA) to cancel Uganda Cranes’ trip to United Arab Emirates.

The Cranes were set to travel to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for two international friendly games with AFCON bound sides Gabon and Mauritania, but this won’t be possible after UAE put a ban on travelers from Uganda due to concerns related to the spread of the omicron COVID-19 variant.

FUFA confirmed the revelation on Tuesday afternoon in a statement released by their media team.

“FUFA has called off the Uganda Cranes trip to United Arab Emirates due to challenges with flight travel.” the statement read in parts.

“Logistically, the time available for arrangement of an alternative flight is not enough for the contingent to fly into UAE.”

The Ugandan national football team was to play Gabon on 30th December 2021 while the Mauritania game was scheduled for January 2nd.
