Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Shadir Musa handed bye at the Round of 32

Ugandan boxer and Bombers captain Shadir Musa had been handed a bye at the Round of 32 in the boxing welterweight category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

This is after a draw was made on Thursday evening in at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo

Out of the 23 boxers, Shadir was among the nine higher ranked boxers and was given a bye at the Round of 32.

The Bombers captain will face the winner between Azerbaijan’s Sotomayor Collazo Lorenzo and Georgia’s Madiev Eskerkhan at the Round of 16 on July 27th.

in the middleweight category, Kavuma David Ssemujju has been drawn against Nemouchi Younes from Morocco at the Round of 32 while Uganda’s first female boxer Catherine Nanziri has been drawn against Japan’s Namiki Tsukimi in the Flyweight category.

Ssemujju will be in action on Saturday while Nanziri will take the ring on Sunday.

Uganda’s last Olympics medal in Boxing came in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow as John Beast Mugabi was defeated by Cuba’s Andres Aldama to win Silver.
