Uganda will have a proud representation at the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, with three top officials earning prestigious appointments as part of the tournament’s officiating team.
CAF on Thursday confirmed that referees, Shamirah Nabadda and Lucky Razake Kasalirwe, and assistant referee Ronald Katenya have been selected among the 70 match officials who will take charge of fixtures during the continental tournament, set to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from 2 to 30 August 2025.
This recognition underlines Uganda’s growing presence in elite-level football officiating and CAF’s commitment to promoting talent from across the continent.
The trio is expected to report to the pre-tournament officiating workshop ahead of kickoff, where all selected officials will undergo intensive training in CAF’s latest officiating protocols and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) systems.
With Uganda also serving as one of the three co-hosts of the tournament, the selection of local officials adds to the national pride surrounding CHAN 2024.
Matches will be held in Mandela National Stadium, with thousands of home fans expected to fill the stadiums and support not just the national team, but also the country’s own officials on the big stage.
CHAN 2024 kicks off on 2 August, with games spread across Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and Kampala, and will culminate with the final on 30 August.
