At the ongoing Division 2 Under-19 World Cup qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Under-19 teams of Ghana and Tanzania secured victories on matchday one, where batting first proved disadvantageous.
In one of the Group B matches, hosts Tanzania faced Nigeria’s Junior Yellow Greens and won by six wickets at Dar Gymkhana Stadium.
Nigeria, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, struggled and were bowled out for 127 runs in 45.4 overs.
Ali Rahmon (20) and Femi Oresenwo (26) top-scored for Nigeria, while Augustine Meya Mwame and Tanzania’s captain, Laksh Snehal Bakrani, each claimed three wickets.
In response, Tanzania chased down the target with Karim Rashidi Kiseto starring with a composed knock of 57, leading his team to a comfortable victory.
Meanwhile, at the University of Dar es Salaam ground, Mozambique fell to Ghana in another Group B encounter.
Mozambique, opting to bat first, were bowled out for a paltry 80 runs in 34.3 overs.
Ghana’s Lee Nyarko was exceptional with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 25 runs in 10 overs with an economy rate of 2.5.
Ghana chased down the target in just 11.1 overs, securing a four-wicket win.
Ghana leads Group B, tied on points with Tanzania, while Mozambique sits at the bottom.
In the upcoming fixtures, Sierra Leone will face Rwanda at Dar Gymkhana, and Botswana will play against Malawi at UDSM.
