The Taibah Schools Badminton Championship is set to make a grand return in 2025, following a strong partnership between the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) and Taibah International Schools.
This year’s edition was officially launched today, March 11, 2025, at Taibah International Schools Cambridge head offices in Bwebajja.
The much-anticipated tournament will take place from March 14 to March 16 at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, featuring both primary and secondary school categories.
The tournament will see participants competing in various individual and team categories, including singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and school competitions.
Over 30 schools will take part, with primary schools featuring Under-10 and Under-13 categories, while secondary schools will have Under-15 and Under-19 competitions.
Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi emphasized the competitive nature of the event and the benefits of participation, saying:
Very big prizes are at stake, and every participant will enjoy themselves. It is always a very competitive event, and we are grateful for Taibah International Schools’ continued support.”
Taibah International Schools reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to the championship, with Principal Oscar Semweya Musoke announcing a sponsorship package worth UGX 11 million, including shuttles, trophies, and medals.
Musoke highlighted the importance of sports in education, stating:
We have sponsored this championship for over 20 years. Sports is a core part of our education system because when students are physically fit, they are mentally fit too. The world now appreciates the value of sports, not just for health but also as a source of income.”
With the return of the Taibah Schools Badminton Championship, young players will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and compete at a high level, further promoting the sport’s development in Uganda.
