When the pressure was high and the clock was ticking, Kampala Capital City Authority FC found their spark from the bench, as Emmanuel Anyama and Katenga Openga stepped up to save their title charge in a thrilling 2-1 comeback over UPDF FC in the Uganda Premier League at Bombo Barracks Grounds on Wednesday evening.
The Kasasiro Boys were forced to dig deep after a first-half setback, with the two substitutes proving decisive in a late turnaround that secured all three points.
KCCA made a bright start and created the better chances early on, but their finishing let them down. Herbert Achai came close with a free-kick that just went over the bar, while Ashraf Mugume also missed narrowly from a promising position.
UPDF punished those missed opportunities in the 36th minute when Emmanuel Ocen struck to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the restart, KCCA raised their intensity in search of an equaliser. Emmanuel Anyama was introduced in the 68th minute, replacing Ashraf Mugume to add more attacking threat.
The change paid off in the 87th minute when Anyama rose highest to head home Herbert Achai’s delivery and level the score.
With momentum shifting, Katenga Openga was brought on in the 80th minute for Saidi Mayanja to further boost the attack.
Katenga then completed the turnaround in the 89th minute, finishing off the comeback to seal a vital win for KCCA.
The result lifts KCCA to second place on 58 points, keeping them in close pursuit of leaders Vipers SC, while UPDF remain 14th on 21 points after 28 matches.
