Wakiso Giants have pilled more misery on relegation threaten Mbarara City as they secured a 3-1 victory over the Ankole Lions on Wednesday.

Youngsters Samuel Ssenyonjo, Titus Ssematimba and Ivan Bogere were target to hand Mbarara City another loss this season.

Charles Sempa netted Mbarara’s consolation.

Having dominated proceedings in the opening exchanges, Ssenyonjo broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, heading in a well driven Joshua Lubwama’s corner.

The KCCA loanee had a chance to double Wakiso’s lead from the spot, but he blazed his kick above the crossbar.

The game went into the break with the Purple Sharks leading 1-0.

After Edward Satulo handling the ball in the forbidden area, Sempa levelled matters for Mbarara from 6-yards to give a glimmer of hope to the visitors.

But Ssematimba restored the Purple Sharks lead in the 72nd minute after he rose highest to head in a Tom Matsiko corner. That was Titus’s seventh goal of the season.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Bogere did magic as he collected the ball from nearly the center-line and wonderfully shot into the back of the net with the Mbarara goalkeeper Martin Elungat left starstruck.

Today’s defeat means Mbarara are winless in their last 10 league games and sit in the relegation zone with just 17 points in 20 games.

Having returned to winning ways, Wakiso Giants stay seventh with 30 points.
