Daniel Sserukuma, Yunus Sentamu and Paul Willa were on target as Vipers thumped SC Villa 3-0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende to heap pressure on the Jogoos.
Vipers kick-started the game on a high footing, firing in two goals in the opening eleven minutes of the game, which left the visitors struggling to figure out what had hit them.
The Venoms scored with their first attempt at goal when a poor clearance by Meddie Kibirige landed to Karim Watambala just outside the box. The youngster controlled the ball and set up Daniel Sserukuma who controlled the ball in the middle of more than five Villa defenders before carefully slotting the ball into the back of the net in the 8th minute
Two minutes afterwards, Vipers had their second of the game through a Yunus Sentamu easy tap-in at the near-post following a nice exchange between Sserukuma and Disan Galiwango to put set him up.
In the 14th minute, the game witnessed it’s first card when Rashid Toha was cautioned by Ssali Mashood for handling the ball outside the box to deny Villa a promising goalscoring opportunity. Villa did nothing out of the resulting free-kick.
Moments later, Yunus Ssentamu should have had his second of the game, just a few moments later, but the lanky forward failed to connect with Galiwango’s cross off the left.
The visitors, had their first attempt on goal go wide in the 36th minute after Nsubuga rose high to direct his headed ball from a Derrick Ndahiro quick corner kick.
The game went into the break with the Venoms holding a 2-0 lead at home over the Jogoos.
At the start of the second half, Villa head coach Edward Kaziba introduced Abdullah Salim for Nicholas Kabonge in a bid to strengthen his attacking line that was blunt in the opening half.
Just after the halftime, Ibrahim Orit had a chance to extend Vipers’ advantage but he headed meters wide following a ball from Galiwango’s corner kick.
After bringing on Faizo Kazibwe and Goffin Oyirwoth for Ronald Olaki and Andrew Kiwanuka respectively, the Joggos started dominating proceedings, imposing almost everything they had on the home side’s backline
They almost got rewarded for their pressures but Ronald Ssekiganda’s effort just rattled the upright after excellent work from Salim.
Villa was reduced to ten men in the 79th minute when Joseph Nsubuga was handed marching orders by Mashood after a second bookable offence on Allan Kayiwa.
A minute later, Villa situation went worsened when they conceded a third goal after Paul Willa raced onto Orit’s defence-splitting pass to bullet it into the top left-hand corner.
Vipers had a chance to add a fourth just before the death of the game but Kayiwa failed to put the ball into the back of the net, heading it a few meters away from goal.
Villa had the last attempt of the game but Fabien Mutombora was at the saving end for the venoms, putting the ball above the crossbar for a corner.
Fred Kajoba’s side has now stretched their unbeaten home run to seven games and now reclaim their lead at the top of the log level on points, at 30, with URA FC, but better by goal difference.
Vipers will play second-placed URA FC away at Ndejje in a battle for top.
Elsewhere, Kitara FC earned their first win of the league after overcoming Wakiso Giants in a 3-2 win at the Kavumba recreation centre. BUL FC beat Soltilo Bright Stars in the other game played at the same venue.
