StarTimes UPL: Sentamu nets brace as Vipers overwhelm Kitara

Yunus Sentamu netted a brace as the defending champions, Vipers SC overwhelmed Kitara FC 3-0 at the Masindi Municipal Stadium on Friday evening.

Sentamu netted a goal in each half to propel his side to an important win over the Hoima side and maintain momentum atop of the StarTimes Uganda Premier league log. Paul Mucureezi added the third after coming from the bench at halftime.

The first attempt at goal fell to the visitors as early as the third minute when Karim Watambala shot at goal but his effort went wide.

Vipers continued to press for an opener but Kitara FC goalie Ivan Akera was brilliant to parry away Disan Galiwango’s lethal shot away in the 8th minute.

Moments later, Vipers almost got a goal when Ibrahim Orit intercepted Akera’s clearance but the ball rattled the crossbar and bounced back into play.

Richard Basangwa also wasted another brilliant chance to break the deadlock in the 25th minute when his looped ball went agonizingly wide.

Finally, the Venoms broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Yunus Sentamu who received the ball from Orit to brilliantly volley it into the back of the net for his first of the game.

Sentamu’s goal ensured the game went into recess with the visitors deservingly in the lead.

At the start of the second half, Vipers SC head coach Fred Kajoba introduced Paul Mucurezi for Jamil Kalisa in a bid to have his side double the advantage.

And indeed they doubled their advantage just after the hour mark when Sentamu got his second of the game from the spot after Daniel Ekuyu handed the ball in the forbidden area.

Basangwa was unlucky again in the second half when he saw his effort kiss the crossbar before helping his side get a third of the game when he was fouled just outside the box.

Mucurezi stepped up and curled his freekick past the home side’s Akera and into the right corner of the goal to stretch the Venoms lead with less than twenty minutes left on the clock.

With an easy win today, Vipers move to 42 points, joint top of SUPL log with URA FC and will play Wakiso Giants next.

While Kitara remains bottom with just 5 points garnered in 18 points and will travel to Lugogo on Tuesday to take on Police FC.
