StarTimes UPL: SC Villa’s winless streak against Busoga United continues after draw in Njeru

Sports club Villa’s winless streak against Busoga United has continued after they played out to a 1-all stalement with the Jinja based side in a StarTimes Uganda Premier league match played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Douglas Muganga broke the deadlock for Busoga United before Villa levelled matters quickly after through Isaac Ogwang’s strike.

Busoga United scored with their first attempt at goal when a wonderful outswinging cornerkick by Gerald Bagoole was met by Douglas Muganga to rise high and head the hosts into the lead with just twelves minutes on the clock.

Three minutes afterwards, SC Villa levelled matters through Isaac Ogwang. Ogwang was the first to react to Ronald Ssekiganda’s headed back flick to put the ball past Omedwa Rogers in the Busoga goal.

From then until the end of the first half, SC Villa continued to improve immense pressure to the Busoga backline as in the 26th minute, Nicholas Kabonge header rattled the crossbar before a Ssekiganda’s effort was parried away by Omedwa for a cornerkick at the half hour mark.

With the scores 1-all  at halftime, Busoga United head coach Abbey Kikomeko bought on Shafiq Kakeeto for injured Onen Franco at the start of the second half

Like in the first half, SC Villa had the first chance of the second half but Ogwang failed to connect well with the ball after Ssekiganda squared pass from the right in the 54th minute

Muhammad Ssenoga wasted a brilliant chance to put the Joggos ahead when he head above the crossbar after he was well spotted by midfielder Wasswa Emmanuel in the 63rd minute

Shortly afterwards, Busoga United were unlucky not to find their second of the game when substitute Anthony Mayanja low drive shot beat the Villa goalie but agonizingly came off the left-hand post and back into play to be saved by Meddie Kibirige.

Eight minutes from time, Fred Agandu shot from outside the box razed off the post and back into play but Derrick Ssekiranda, who came on for Ssenoga failed to meet the resulting ball to be cleared away for a throw in.

After today’s result, SC Villa remain winless against Busoga since 2016, having lost three games and drawn thrice in their last 6 games against the Mighty team.

While also Busoga United’s winless start to the season continues after recording their 5th draw of the season. The other four have ended in defeats.

SC Villa move a step up to 5th place on the log with 15 points garnered in nine games while Busoga United remain in 14th position with 5 points.
