StarTimes UPL: KCCA takes on Unbeaten Wakiso Giants, Vipers hosts BUL and much more


After a busy weekend of fixtures, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League action returns on Tuesday. Heading into Matchday 9, Vipers are at the top of the table, on the back of 8 games unbeaten in the Uganda’s top-flight.

Police and Express FC are playing catch-up with the Venoms in second and third place respectively on 16 points while the thirteen UPL champions KCCA FC are seventh, 5 points behind the leaders. Wakiso Giants and KCCA FC game at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium is the highlight of the game week, while Soltilo Bright Star’s game at Kyetume should also make for an interesting matchup at Kavumba.

Here is our rundown of all the action that awaits us in the Uganda Premier League  on Tuesday.

Kyetume Vs Soltilo Bright Stars

Kyetume get the match week underway at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru where they host high flying Soltilo Bright Stars. The two teams are separated by just two points on the table.

Last result

Kyetume suffered a 3-1 loss to Onduparaka FC at the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium, Arua. It was their third consecutive game without a win since they beat BUL before the league broke off.

Soltilo Bright Stars however, defeated UPDF FC 3-0 in their last match.


This will be the second top flight meeting between the two sides – the first encounter was won by Kyetume when Sharif Ssaka scored the only goal of the game at Wankulukuku in 2019.

What This Could Mean:

A win for the Slaughterers could take them above Bright Stars and level with KCCA FC on 13 points while A win for Bright Stars could lift them into the top 4, surpassing KCCA FC, Villa, Onduparaka and URA if the other results go in their way.

Vipers SC Vs BUL FC

The table leaders and Still Unbeaten Vipers SC will host BUL FC at the St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende seeking to maintain their grip atop of the table. The Visitors, BUL FC, sit 13th with seven points, just 3 above the relegation zone.

Last Result

Vipers SC rallied from a goal down to secure a comprehensive 3-2 win over 10-man Police FC courtesy of a Ibrahim Orit brace at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

BUL meanwhile, suffered their heaviest defeat this season, a 4-0 loss at home to Express FC on Saturday. They have now been beaten five times in their opening five games.

Head to head:

This will be the 17th meeting between the two sides. Vipers has won 10 matches, BUL FC two while 4 matches have ended in a draw.

Arthur Kyesimira’s side is yet to win a game at the St Mary’s with their last encounter there ending in a 2-1 win for the Venoms in October, 2019.

What this could mean

The hosts are top of the league and hold a two points lead over the chasing pack ( Police FC and Express ). They can tighten their grip on the top spot with another win here.

BUL desperately needs a win against the Venoms’ to take them at least a place up on 10 points to go above Mbarara City who play UPDF on Wednesday.

Wakiso Giants Vs KCCA

The biggest game of the week takes place at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakiso when Unbeaten Wakiso Giants takes on Mike Mutebi’s KCCA FC.

Although Wakiso are Unbeaten, they have won just one of their opening eight games so far, while KCCA FC have endured a torrid start to their season, having succumbed to three defeats already and sit 5 points off the top.

Last result

Wakiso Giants traveled to URA FC and played out to a goalless stalemate with the Tax Collectors, their seventh draw this season with their only win coming against Mbarara City in Match day six

For KCCA FC, they returned to winning ways after their 5-0 victory against MYDA at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The Kasasiro Boys were win less in their previous four games before the Malaba match .

Head to head

This will be the second meeting between the two sides in the league. The first encounter was won by KCCA FC after Allan Okello scored the lone goal of the game in August, 2019.

What this could mean

The hosts, Wakiso Giants, are desperate to extend their unbeaten run to the season and a win tomorrow takes them just a point below KCCA FC on 12 points, while a draw doesn’t take them anywhere as they remain 10th.

Having returned to winning ways against MYDA, KCCA FC will hope to close the gap on leaders Vipers with a win taking them just two points below the Venoms if they lose.

Busoga United Vs SC Villa

A live Television game on Sanyuka TV will see a win less Busoga United host SC Villa at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru who are seeking for their first away victory of the season.

Busoga have not won a game this season, having endured 4 losses and 4 draws in their opening eight games while Villa have not won away so far this season after picking up two draws and two loss in their last 4 away games.

Last result

Busoga United traveled to Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara and played out to a goalless draw with Mbarara City on Friday, while SC Villa needed a late Fazil Kazibwe goal to earn a hard-fought 3-2 win over Kitara FC

Head to head

This will be the 7th meeting between the two sides. Busoga United has won three games, Villa 1 while the other two have ended in draws.

Villa last win against Busoga United happened in 2016 when the Jogoos won 2-0 while playing their home games in Masaka.

What this could mean

The hosts, Busoga United are seeking for their first win of the season which could get them out of the relegation zone, while Villa are seeking for their first away win after four unsuccessful attempts and a victory could take them to within a point below Vipers at the end of the day if results go their way

Express Vs MYDA

Express FC travel to King George Stadium, Tororo to Face MYDA as one of the three teams that haven’t tasted defeat this season, having garnered 4 wins and 4 draws in their opening eight games.

Meanwhile their opponents, MYDA sit second last on the log with just a point collected in their first top 8 games. They have also conceded the most goals this season (28)

Last results

The Red Eagles traveled to Jinja and claimed their biggest win this season, a 4-0 win over BUL FC at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe. That was their second successive away win after defeating URA FC 1-0 at Ndejje.

MYDA FC suffered an humiliating 5-0 loss to KCCA FC on Saturday, thanks to Charles Lwanga and Bright Anukani braces for the Kasasiro Boys.

Head to Head

This will be the first league encounter between the two side as MYDA was just recently promoted to Uganda’s top-flight league .

What this could mean

Express FC are seeking for a third away victory of the season which could send them top of the log while even if MYDA wins, the Malaba based side would stay in the relegation zone with six points below BUL FC who are 13th.
