One-time Uganda Premier League champions Police FC have secured their first point in the 2021/2022 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
This is after avoiding defeat against Mbarara City in a game that ended goalless at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday evening.
Abdallah Mubiru and his charges came into this game having lost all their opening six games this season.
For Mbarara, they had also suffered three consecutive defeats in the league.
In a dull encounter, the opening half was dominated by Mbarara City but struggled much to convert their possession into goals.
Pitsis Barenge had the first realistic chance for the Ankole Lions but his shot was parried away by Tom Ikara in the 25th minute.
At almost the end of the half, Police fashioned a chance of their own through Juma Balinya but his sublime effort was stopped by Martin Elugat.
Tony Mawejje then came close moments later but his effort bundled above the crossbar.
While also Jude Ssemugabi missed a brilliant chance for Mbarara before the break, striking his effort near Ikara.
Little chances were created in the closing half as both side resolted to a combative approach to game.
The best chance of the game did fall to Brian Mululi in the 58th minute but HW failed to convert after a one on one situation with Elugat after a delicious Johnson Odongo cross.
Okwalinga tested Tom Ikara from the free kick but his effort was paved away brilliantly by the police FC custodian.
There was also controversy as Ikara attacked his own player Tonny Kiwalazi for a mistake just outside the penalty box which resulted in Ikara been booked for indiscipline in the 80th minute of the game.
The game ended in a goalless draw with both teams settling for a point.
Police FC custodian Tom Ikara was awarded the man of the match accolade for his brilliant display.
