Attacker Rogers Mato scored the lone goal for KCCA as they defeated Wakiso Giants 1-0 in their StarTimes UPL second round opener.
At the stroke of halftime, Mato, who was coming from an offside position netted from close range to give the Kasasiro Boys the lead.
The goal was initially flagged off as an offside by the assistant referee, but after conversations with referee Ali Sabila, the goal was rightly let to stand since Lawrence Bukenya ( who was down outside of the pitch) kept the KCCA forward on-side.
In the run-up to the goal, KCCA would have been awarded a penalty after Allan Okello was brought down in the forbidden area.
Apart from Mato’s goal, the opening half was short of chances as both sides struggled to get the ball to their forwards.
KCCA had several chances to double their lead in the second half, but on all those occasions, they were denied by goalkeeper Samson Kirya.
Kirya parried away Allan Okello’s free kick in the 57th minute before he did the same to Brian Majwega’s shot just after hour-mark.
Wakiso also had several chances to level matters in the opening half, but failed to beat KCCA custodian Derrick Ochan.
Ochan brilliantly punched away Alex Komakech’s ferocious attempt before he also denied Mikdad Ssenyonga’s shot.
Late on in the game, Shariph Kimbowa wasted a brilliant chance to level matters for Wakiso Giants as he failed to beat Ochan after brilliant work by Frank Ssebuufu, who beat off two of his markers to set up his striking partner.
At the end of the 90, 1-0 it ended in favor of KCCA, who now move to 32 points and sit top of the StarTimes UPL log.
Wakiso Giants, on the other hand remain fourth with 25 points in 15 games.
