Mbarara City won their first game this against a struggling Arua Hill Sports Club side 1-0 in the Startimes Uganda Premier League at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.
Henry Kitegenyi scored the only goal of the day in the 13th minute of the game.
Just three minutes into the game Pius Kaggwa had a shout for a penalty after his deflected shot hit Arua Hill defender Ibrahim Musa.
Ten minutes later a vibrant Odong dribbleed past two and passed to Joseph Akandwanaho to put in a low cross from the left into Kitegenyi’s stride only for him to next the opener.
Even with a goal in the bag, a dominant Mbarara City continued to attack Arua hill only for winger Kaggwa to score their second in the 32nd minute after a good ball from Kitegenyi but was canceled by assistant referee Jane Mutoni because the scorer was offside.
The Ankole Lions left the first period with a 1-0 lead against a Leopards side that looked depleted at all times.
In the second stanza, both sides had a few share of chances but there was no change in the result.
While it’s too early to talk about table positions, this result takes Mbarara to 5 points while Arua Hill stay bottom without a win.
In their next games, Mbarara City FC will host Solitilo Bright Stars at Kakyeka Stadium on Tuesday 31st October in Mbarara while Arua Hill welcome KCCA FC to Adjumani on the same day.
