Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC)’s electrifying start to the 2020/21 season continued on Friday evening with a 2-0 home win over Mbarara City FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
With this win, the Kasasiro Boys maintained their 100% start to the season and secured their position at the top of the StarTimes UPL standings.
Sam Ssenyonjo extended his scoring run for KCCA as he netted his fifth goal in the club’s three opening games.
In the 38th minute, the Kasasiro Boys broke the deadlock after Denis Iguma’s header was sent straight into the back of the net by Souleyman Bamba following a Moses Aliro free-kick to hand the hosts a goal’s lead at halftime.
Hassan Musana was brought on for Moses Aliro just before the halftime break.
It was in the second half that youngster Ssenyonjo then got his name on the scoresheet after rebounding the ball into the back of the net in the 51st minute to double the hosts’ lead.
Mbarara City best goal-scoring opportunity of the game fell to Bashir Mutanda in the second half but the former Villa striker’s effort hit the crossbar.
KCCA FC has now garnered a maximum 9 points from the opening three games and will play their traditional rivals SC Villa next week.
On the other hand, the Ankole Lions will host e in their next league outing at the Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara.
In other results, Busoga United and Kyetume played out to a 1-all draw at the FUFA Technical centre, while Onduparaka managed to overcome MYDA FC in a 5-goal thriller for their first win of the season.
The StarTimes UPL continues this Saturday as the defending champions Vipers visit Wakiso Giants.
In the other games, URA FC will take on SC Villa at the Arena of Visions, Kitara face Police FC at the Kavumba Recreation grounds, UPDF hosts BUL and Express FC take on Soltilo Bright Stars at Wankulukuku.
