Express FC recovered from a goal down to defeat their rivals SC Villa 2-1 in a Kampala derby played on Saturday evening in Njeru.
SC Villa went ahead through Isaac Ogwang’s early goal, but SC Villa’s Amir Kakomo netted in his own net to tie the score before Eric Kambale netted what proved the winner just before halftime.
Ogwang’s strike came in the sixth minute after he was set up by Nicholas Kabonge.
But less than 10 minutes later, the score was level as Kakomo netted in his own net after an initial Enock Ssebagala shot.
Both sides had chances to go ahead but were unlucky. Express’s Ivan Mayanja failed to connect well with Martin Kizza’s cross while Benson Muhindo was denied by Express goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima.
Before the break though, Express got their second- a match winner through Eric Kambale who pounced in following an Ivan Mayanja assist.
In the second half, Express would have made it 3 but Kizza failed to find the target just after hour-mark.
While Villa also tried to look for an equaliser through Sadam Juma, but he was denied by an impressive Kusiima.
At the end of the 90, The Red Eagles took the Kampala derby 2-1 and subject Villa to yet another defeat.
Express remain fifth on the log with 39 points while SC Villa are 12th with 25. The Jogoos are just four points above the drop zone with only six games left for them.
