StarTimes UPL: Charles Lwanga nets late brace as KCCA rally from behind to beat UPDF


Charles Lwanga came from the bench to net twice and hand KCCA a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over UPDF FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday evening.

Lwanga who came on for Davis Kasirye in the 70th minute leveled matters in the 88th minute before securing his side a victory two minutes later.

UPDF took an early lead of the game after Frank Yiga netted his first of the season as early as the 4th minute after a Ivan Ahimbisibwe assist.

The Kasasiro Boys had three chances to level matters in the opening half but Yasser Mugerwa , Kasirye and innocent Wafula all failed to find the target narrowly.

Having been mostly at the receiving end in the opening half, the Army side returned for the second half the better side.

If it wasn’t for the brilliance of Benjamin Ochan, UPDF would have doubled their lead on two occasions but the KCCA skipper made wonderful saves to deny Ahimbisibwe.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Denis Iguma came close to putting his side level but he was denied by the upright with Brian Bwete well beaten.

With game heading for a KCCA first loss of the season, Lwanga rose high and headed home to level matters in the 88th minute.

He then completed KCCA comeback win two minutes afterwards with a stunning strike to send the home crowds in jubilation and secure yet another victory for the Kasasiro Boys.

KCCA has now five of their opening six games, with the other ending a 1-all stalemate with Bright Stars.

With the victory, KCCA maintain their grip atop of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log with 16 points, three above of their nearest rivals Vipers SC.

They will play Arua Hill SC next Friday in Arua while UPDF will host Busoga United in Bombo.
