StarTimes UPL: Arua Hill rally from two goals down to share spoils with SC Villa

Arua Hill SC rallied from two goals down to share spoils with SC Villa in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Tuesday.

Isaac Ogwang and Nicholas Kabonge were on target for SC Villa to put them 2-0 ahead before Alfred Leku and Innocent Madia netted for Arua Hill.

The opening exchanges were far from entertaining as both sides struggled to create chances upfront

The game’s first attempt at goal came in the 25th minute as Gaddafi Wahab’s free kick was parried away by SC Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibiringe after Sam Ssekamate was fouled outside the box.

From arguably their first attempt at goal, SC Villa took the lead through Isaac Ogwang who pressurized Arua Hill goalkeeper Rodgers Omendwa to break the deadlock. Ogwang was first to react after Omedwa failed to handle a badly cleared Faizul Ibrahim clearance.

Few moments later, it was two for the Visitors, SC Villa after Nicholas Kabonge slotted the ball into the back of the net after an excellent Saddam Masereka’s cross.

After conceding twice in less than five minutes, Arua Hill pulled a goal back in 43rd minute as Alfred Leku tapped home a Robert Esseru’s headed tap-back.

Just before the break, Joseph Kafumbe would have restored SC Villa’s two goals lead but his free kick effort kissed the crossbar and went out.

The game went into the break with the visitors holding a slim 2-1 lead over the hosts.

It was all Arua Hill in the closing half as they created chance after chance, trying to find the second and level matters.

Villa’s defender Garvin Kizito made a late ditch tackle to deny Sam Ssekamate in the 50th minute before Ssekamate headed high following a Richard Matovu cross two minutes afterwards.

Rashid Toha also headed his effort wide after a good delivery by Wahab from a corner.

With 10 minutes to the death of the game, Arua Hill finally leveled matters through substitute Innocent Madia header off a Geriga free kick.

Arua Hill tried to look for the winner late on but Villa held on to secure a draw.

The draw takes Arua Hill to 15 points in 10 games while SC Villa move to 9 points in 9 games.

Arua Hill will host UPDF FC next while SC Villa will battle KCCA.
