Ivan Ahimbisibwe netted a hattrick for 10-man UPDF FC as they defeated Busoga United 3-2 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played on Wednesday evening at Bombo Barracks Military Playground.
The two of Busoga United’s goals were scored by Hassan Kintu and Laban Tibita.
UPDF had to come from behind to secure the emphatic victory after Busoga United took the lead in the 5th minute through Kintu’s strike.
After a couple of missed chances, Ahimbisibwe finally levelled matters for the Army side in the 22nd minute after heading in a well driven Davis Kakaire’s cross.
Few moments later, Ahimbisibwe gave the hosts the lead from the spot after Kintu handled the ball in the forbidden area.
The game went into the break with the hosts leading narrowly, and just six minutes after restart, Ahimbisibwe completed his hattrick with a sublime strike following a Frank Yiga ball.
After the hour mark, UPDF were reduced to 10-man as Okello Donato was sent off for a second bookable offense on Tibiita.
Tibiita then pulled a goal back for Busoga United in the 77th minute finding the back of net following Edrine Opaala’s header to raced onto his path.
Busoga United tried to level matters later on in the game but UPDF held on to collect all three.
With the victory, UPDF move up to 5th on the log with four points while Busoga is 9th on 3 points.
UPDF will play Soltilo Bright Stars next while Busoga United will host URA.
