SC Villa, Mbale Heroes, UPDF and Soltilo Bright Stars all overcame first-leg deficits to storm the last 16 of this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup. SC Villa defeated Ndejje University, UPDF, Mbale Heroes and Bright Stars eliminated Arua Hill, Gadaffi and Paidha Black Angels respectively.

Here is a recap of all the round of 32 ties played today;

Starting off at the Arena of Visions, Geoffrey Wasswa marked his debut with a goal to help SC Villa overturn a first-leg deficit and progress to the Round of 16 with a 3-0 win over Ndejje University and progress with a 3-1 aggregate score over the two legs. SC Villa had lost the first leg 1-0 at home in Bombo on Monday.

Geoffrey Wasswa, a former vipers player converted from the spot in the 66th minute after Ronald Ssekiganda had put the Jogoos ahead four minutes earlier. Emmanuel Wasswa added the third in the 72nd minute.

In Bombo, Alex Kitata netted the lone goal for UPDF FC after overcoming Arua Hill SC 1-0 at the Bombo Military playground.

Kitata’s goal came in the 4th minute and propelled the Army side to the last 16 after a 3-3 aggregate scoreline. UPDF progressed on away goals rule having lost 3-2 to Arua Hill in the first leg.

In Wakiso, Soltilo Bright Stars thrashed Paidha Black Angels 3-1 at the Kavumba Recreation Center to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and reach the last 16. Samuel Ssekamatte netted a brace while Sulaiman Ssebunza added another from the spot. Shaban Farouk scored the Paidha’s consolation.

In Mbale, Mbale Heroes needed penalties to eliminate Gadaffi FC at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Sunday Evening after they defeated the Jinja based side 1-0 on the day to tie the scoreline 1-all after the two legs.

Mbale went on to win via shoot outs 4-2 to reach the last 16 of the Cup for the first time in over a decade.
