Stanbic Uganda Cup: Dhata shines as NEC thrash Acholi United to qualify for Round of 16

Joseph Dhata netted a hat trick in the game between NEC Football Club and Acholi United Football Club that took place at Philp Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

NEC won 5-1, moving forward to the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16.

Into the game, the hosts dominated as Acholi players struggled on the unfamiliar turf.

The visitors found the artificial surface challenging, offering little resistance throughout the match.

Despite a sparse crowd, fans witnessed skillful football as the Lugogo side missed early chances, with Acholi’s keeper making a mistake but NEC failing to capitalize.

Dhata broke the deadlock with a powerful shot in the 13th minute. Gadafi Wahabu missed a chance to extend the lead in the 16th minute.

Despite Acholi’s attempts, NEC maintained control. Dhata scored again in the 19th minute, followed by Gaddafi Wahabu in the 27th minute.

Captain Marvin Kavuma scored in the 36th minute, ending the first half 4-0 in NEC’s favor.

In the second half, Otim David scored in the 54th minute, providing a consolation goal for Acholi United. However, NEC’s lead remained secure.

Acholi’s goalkeeper made impressive saves, but NEC’s Joseph Dhata Lujang scored again in the 70th minute completing a hat trick, being the first player to walk away with a match ball, the famous new “Zakayo” and he helped his team NEC in securing a 5-1 victory.

NEC advances to the round of 16, awaiting their next opponent determined by a draw.
