Sserwadda joins New York Red Bulls on permanent basis

Nineteen year old Steven Sserwadda joins New York Red Bulls on a MLS contract from reserve side New York Red Bulls II.

The club announced the signing on Saturday. Sserwadda who was in his second year at New York Red Bulls II will occupy an international spot on the Red Bulls team.

The Ugandan international has played 14 USL Championship games for the club, 10 this season with 862 minutes under his belt.

The former KCCA FC lad had joined the New York Red Bulls on a short-term loan the last month making his first team debut in the club’s Quarterfinal matchup of the U.S. Open Cup against New York City FC and MLS debut against Atlanta United FC on 30 June 2022.

Sserwadda has played for the Cranes( Ugandan National Football teams) at all levels Under 17, Under 20 and Under 23, making his Ugandan Senior National Team debut against Tajikistan three months ago.

New York Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett came out to pile some praise on the midfielder saying;

Steven is a dynamic young player that we have seen develop during his time with New York Red Bulls II and we are excited to add him to our roster,

In his time with the club, we have seen the promising qualities he possesses, and we are looking forward to having him on the field with us.

The team Head Coach Gerhard Struber also added that;

What we’ve seen from Steven over the last couple months has been very exciting,

He fits into our style of play, and we have seen that in his appearances over the last month and believe that he can succeed at the MLS level.

Sserwadda becomes the second player to play for American Outfit after New York Red Bulls II interim Head Coach Ibrahim Ssekagya.
