The UCA Men’s 50-Over League resumes tomorrow with two exciting Division Two fixtures.
Soroti City Cricket Club will visit Jinja SS at their home ground, while Mukono Development Cricket Club will face the seasoned Tornado Cricket Club at Entebbe Cricket Oval.
Soroti City had a strong campaign last season but fell short of top-flight qualification after a 58-run loss to JACC in the semifinals at Jinja SS Oval.
They won 7 out of their 8 group-stage games, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Tornado Cricket Club.
This season, Soroti City will continue under the leadership of manager Joseph Ssekyewa and captain Ronald Ebulu.
Their squad, largely unchanged, Jacob Malinga, Peter Ocen, Juma Sururu, Alban Ainebyona, Bonnie Pande, Richard Oluka, Felix Musana, Wilfred Ogwang, Hilary Kutesa, Derrick Bakunzi, Stephen Alianu, Gideon Oteke, Emanuel Twijukye, Joel Etoku, Stephen Okiror, Christopher Osakan, Joseph Apollo, Joel Epiangu, and Allan Nabugyere.
However during tomorrow’s opener, they will miss the services of allrounder Peter Ochen, who is currently with the Baby Cricket Cranes for the Under-19 World Cup qualifiers in Lagos.
Mukono Development, a new addition to the league, was formed to provide more playing opportunities for local cricketers.
The club features seasoned players such as Solomon Lubwama Kigozi, former Under-19 captain Mutagana Fahad, and newcomers Muhammad Saleh Khalid and Nuwagaba Edwin from JACC.
The rest of the squad is composed of school boys, including captain Bahati Moses, Ogenrwot Kenneth, Kyanja Trevor Mark, Muhanguzi London Timothy, Mugisha Victor, Matovu Eric, Naveed Ahmed, Tigatoola Abubaker, Ssekito Mahad, and Ssebanyiga Davis.
The 2025 UCA Men’s 50-Over League will feature matches played on both Saturdays and Sundays, a change designed to finish the competition earlier and accommodate T20 and T10 leagues later in the year.
The league will consist of both Division One and Division Two, with Division Two split into two groups: Group A and B.
Group A includes Soroti City, Jinja SS, Patidar, Kutch Tigers B, Entale, Nile, and Budo, while Group B features Tornado, Premier, GM Sugar, Mukono Development, SKLPS, Mukono Warriors, Aziz Daman Ismaili, and St John’s SS.
Division One will feature eight teams: Kutch Tigers, Wanderers, Aboojo, Tornado Bees, Ceylon, Avengers, JACC, and Rounders, who have been promoted after Patidar Cricket Club opted to play in division two.
Kutch Tigers won Division One last season, while Avengers triumphed in Division Two, defeating JACC in the final.
The 2025 season promises thrilling encounters, with both seasoned clubs and newcomers vying for victory.
