Scotland-based forward Sebastian Fisher marked his Uganda Cubs debut with a stunning hat-trick as Uganda opened their 2027 AFCON U-17 CECAFA qualifying campaign with an emphatic victory over Burundi in Kigali.

Sebastian Fisher announced himself in spectacular fashion on Saturday, October 10, 2026, scoring three goals on his debut as Uganda’s U-17 national team, the Uganda Cubs, demolished Burundi 8-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda.

The Scotland-based forward came off the bench to deliver a memorable second-half performance, completing his hat-trick and helping coach Laryea Kingston’s side make a commanding start to their campaign in the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-17 CECAFA qualifiers.

Fisher’s three goals capped a dominant display by Uganda, who had already established a four-goal advantage by half-time before adding four more goals in the second period.

Uganda wasted little time asserting their authority, with Arnold Kayemba opening the scoring in the 19th minute.

The forward rose highest to head home and give the Cubs the lead before doubling their advantage just two minutes later. Kayemba struck again in the 21st minute, finishing from close range and leaving Burundi goalkeeper Cedrick Niyukuri with little chance.

Burundi attempted to respond, pushing forward in search of a way back into the contest. However, their efforts failed to produce a goal, with skipper Elvis Irakoze seeing his attempts blocked by Uganda’s defence.

The Cubs continued to exploit their attacking opportunities, with Arafat Ibanda and Nicholas Kawooya both finding the net to extend Uganda’s advantage.

Their goals ensured Uganda went into the half-time break with a commanding 4-0 lead, putting them firmly in control of the Group B encounter.

With Uganda already comfortably ahead, substitute Sebastian Fisher emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the match.

The Scotland-based forward needed only the second half to make his mark, opening his account in the 73rd minute to extend Uganda’s lead.

Three minutes later, Junior Ofoyrworth added another goal, making it 6-0 in the 76th minute as the Cubs continued to overwhelm their opponents.

Fisher then took control of the closing stages, scoring twice more to complete his hat-trick and bring Uganda’s goal tally to eight.

The debutant’s three-goal contribution provided a memorable highlight in an otherwise one-sided contest and gave the Uganda Cubs an emphatic opening-day victory.

Despite the convincing scoreline, Uganda head coach Laryea Kingston was quick to remind his players that the work was far from finished.

“I am very happy with the win and the many goals the boys scored. We need to keep focused and prepare for our next match against Ethiopia,” Kingston said after the match.

His comments reflected the importance of maintaining momentum as Uganda seek to navigate the regional qualifiers and secure a place at the 2027 AFCON U-17 finals.

Fisher’s impressive debut will offer the technical team another attacking option, while Kayemba’s first-half brace demonstrated Uganda’s ability to threaten opponents through different attacking avenues.

The victory gives Uganda an ideal start in Group B, where they are competing against Ethiopia and Burundi.

The Cubs will now prepare for their next match against Ethiopia, with Kingston expected to demand the same attacking intent and discipline from his players.

For Fisher, however, the opening fixture will remain a special occasion. Scoring three goals on his debut has given the young forward a memorable introduction to Ugandan international football.

After an eight-goal performance in Kigali, Uganda have sent an early warning to their rivals that they intend to be serious contenders in the race for qualification to the 2027 AFCON U-17 tournament.
