Road To BAL: City Oilers are BAL bound


City Oilers have qualified for the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL) for a second successful season following a 72-61 semi final victory in Nile Conference Qualifiers against Dynamo from Burundi this evening at Ellis Park in Johannesburg SouthAfrica

The Ugandan giants set themselves up for a final against hosts Cape Town Tigers on Sunday.

The win Ensured Uganda’s 9 time champions a place in the Elite 16 after grabbing one of the two assured slots for the finalists.

Veteran new addition Robinson Opong and Titus Lual Odeke led the charge for the Oilers, ending the game with 17 and 14 points respectively.

Oilers lived up to their local nickname “The Dictator” having gone through the group stage unbeaten after wins against Madagascar’s COSPN, JBC from Zimbabwe and Mozambique’s Ferroviario da Beira.

This will be the fourth Edition of the Basketball Africa League which is set to be played across four different cities across the continent with finals that will be held in Kigali Rwanda.

City Oilers remains the only team to have represented Uganda at the BAL stage.
