Ranked: 2021/22 StarTimes UPL’s Best coaches based on their winning percentage

In football, there are many ways to determine how successful a manager has been. This could be by the level of success, style of football, success in the form of silverware, or statistics at their respective Clubs for a given period of time.

In this article, we bring you the top managers in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League this past season basing on their winning percentage.

Abbey Kikomeko ( Busoga United) – 30%

Abbey Kikomeko Bogere helped Busoga United survive relegation from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. After a luksture first round, the Busoga based side secured six victories in the second round to avoid relegation by four points.

In 30 league games all season, Abbey collected nine wins to put his winning percentage to 30%

Wasswa Bbosa ( Express FC) -41%

After winning the title last season, Express endured a poor start to the season, losing their first two games ( 2-0 against Arua Hill and 1-0 to UPDF)

At the end of the first round, they had seven victories and had lost ground on the title race.

After two games in the second round, Wasswa Bbosa was relieved of his duties by the club.

At the time of his sack, Bbosa had 41% winning ratio, having garnered 7 wins in 17 games.

Paul Kiwanuka ( Bright Stars) – 43%

Paul Kiwanuka came back to Bright Stars and helped them survive relegation

Paul Kiwanuka made a third return to Bright Stars to replace Baker Mbowa in February.

In 16 games in charge of the Stars, Kiwanuka managed seven victories and helped the team survive relegation, having taken over in February when the team was in relegation zone.

With 7 wins in 16 games, thats a 43% win rate for the tactician.

Alex Isabirye ( BUL FC) – 46.6%

Alex Isabirye helped BUL FC finish the season fourth on the 16-man log behind only Vipers, KCCA and URA.

They secured 14 victories, 10 draws and six loses in their 30 games. They also scored the third most goals in the 2021/22 season with 54 goals.

Their 14 victories in 30 games takes Isabirye’s win percentage to 46.6%

Livingstone Mbabazi ( Arua Hill) – 46.6%

In Arua Hill first top flight season in Ugandan football history, coach Livingstone Mbabazi helped them finish in the top half after securing 14 victories in 30 games.

These victories included beating league best sides in Vipers, Express FC and URA FC. They also made Barifa Stadium a fortress, winning ten games there and losing only once ( against KCCA)

With 14 victories in 30 games, Mbabazi and Arua Hill finished the season with a 46.6%

Sam Timbe ( URA FC) – 50%

Like every season in the past few seasons, URA has been there up competing for the trophy. This past season was no different as they finished third on the log behind Vipers and KCCA.

They secured 15 wins in their 30 games and finished the season with 50% win percentage.

Morley Byekwaso ( KCCA) – 50%

Morley Byekwaso and KCCA had a bright start to the season, winning eight of their opening 10 games, but after the loss to URA in their last game of the first round, the team went off-track, drawing most of their second round games and winning only six times in 16 games

They finished the season with 15 victories to take the winning percentage to 50%.

Roberto Oliviera ( Vipers SC) – 76.6%

Arguably the best coach in the Uganda Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

Robertinho took the league by storm as he guided Vipers to their fifth league title in their history.

They did this by winning 23 of their 30 games. They lost just two games ( to URA and Arua Hill) and drew the other five.

With 74 points, Vipers won the title 18 points above their nearest competition KCCA who finished the second in second with 58 points – a record in the Uganda Premier League season.

The 2022 Uganda National Ludo Super League first round comes to climax
