  • Muteesa 1-0 MUBS

Muteesa I Royal University exacted sweet revenge on Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in an intense University Football League encounter on Tuesday evening in Masaka.

Having fallen 1-0 in the first-round fixture, the hosts turned the tables with an identical scoreline, securing a crucial victory that propelled them to the top of Group F.

From the onset, Muteesa I Royal University demonstrated their intent, pressing MUBS relentlessly from all angles.

The first real chance of the game came just ten minutes in when Sserwanga Musa found space to connect with Busuulwa’s corner, only to send his header narrowly wide of the crossbar.

MUBS, feeling the heat, adjusted their tactics ten minutes later, resorting to long balls in search of a breakthrough.

Their strategy nearly paid off, but Arthur Mazige’s effort inside the penalty area flew over the bar, much to the relief of the home crowd.

As the match progressed, both teams found it difficult to register any shots on target. With half an hour gone, MUBS decided to slow the tempo, absorbing the pressure exerted by the determined hosts.

Five minutes to halftime, Twinamasiko showed great skill under pressure to create a shooting opportunity, but Muteesa I’s goalkeeper, Fred Mugerwa, was equal to the challenge.

The hosts responded with a quick counterattack, but Sserugo missed from close range, ensuring the first half ended goalless.

The second half resumed with Muteesa I Royal maintaining their attacking intent. Ten minutes after the restart, Nicholas Ssenyonjo whipped in a cross from the right, setting up Geoffrey Sserugo, whose header was gathered by MUBS goalkeeper Stewart Matovu.

The hosts continued pressing, and five minutes past the hour mark, Jjunju Eddie set up Busuulwa, but his shot from a tight angle failed to hit the target.

With twenty minutes left on the clock, MUBS came agonizingly close to stealing the lead. Joe Worrick Mbabazi fired a shot from just outside the box, but it whistled past the near post.

Moments later, he was at it again, receiving a well-placed pass from Farouk Senkumba before curling a stunning effort toward the back post.

Goalkeeper Mugerwa was left scrambling, but Ibrahim Mubiru heroically cleared the danger just in time.

As the game edged toward a seemingly inevitable draw, Muteesa I Royal University found the decisive breakthrough two minutes from full time.

Sserwanga Musa rose highest to meet a cross and directed a beautiful header into the net, sending the home fans into jubilation.

Muteesa I Royal University held on to claim all three points, leapfrogging MUBS to take the top spot in Group F with six points from three games.

MUBS, with four points, now find themselves in pursuit of their rivals as the competition intensifies.
