Olila Cricket Club set to face Pioneer Cricket Club

Cricket Club tomorrow, July 13, 2024, in their first game of the Women’s T20 league doubleheader at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Last season, Olila finished a strong second behind Soroti City Cricket with 10 wins, 2 losses, and a total of 20 points.

In contrast, Pioneer Cricket Club ended the season in 6th place out of 7 teams.

This season, they’ve partnered with Masaka SS to serve as a feeder team, aiming to improve their standings.

During their last encounter, Olila Cricket Club triumphed over Pioneer with decisive victories, winning by 96 runs and 8 wickets in the morning and afternoon games, respectively.

Despite missing last season’s highest run-scorer Esther Iloku (259 runs from 12 innings) and the most valuable player, Amongin Noame, who both transferred to Soroti City, Olila remains confident in their strength.

Olila Cricket Club’s squad has been bolstered by the return of national team players Phiona Kulume and Akiteng Sarah from Soroti City Cricket Club.

Their experience and skills are expected to significantly boost the team’s performance as they strive for league glory.

Phiona Kulume who will also serve as the captain for Olila Cricket  Club expressed her enthusiasm, saying:

“I am very happy to get back home and ready to do everything it takes to win the league this season for my team Olila.

It’s an honor to play for the club that made me, and we hope to begin the season on a high tomorrow”

Olila Cricket Club will be coached by Wilfred Ogwang and their  full squad includes:

Kulume Phiona (C), Jimia Mohammad, Anyait Lorna, Asumin Akurut, Ariokot Malisa, Nandera Immaculate, Acan Racheal, Icumar Josephine, Akello Ruth Nanyonjo, Akiteng Sarah, Agwang Lucky, Amayo Martha, Nabuuma Mary

In other matches, the unbeaten Soroti City Cricket Club will face Tornado Bees at Entebbe Cricket Oval, while the winless ACC will visit JACC in Jinja, both teams looking to secure their first victories of the season.
