Former KCCA FC and Express left-back Mustafa Kizza has returned to the Uganda Premier League, signing a two-year deal with army side NEC FC.

Kizza, known for his sweet left foot and dangerous crosses, has officially put pen to paper, marking his return to Lugogo after his departure from KCCA FC for greener pastures abroad. NEC FC, based in Bugolobi and hosting their games at the MTN Omondi stadium alongside KCCA FC, has now secured one of the most exciting talents Uganda has produced in the last decade.

Kizza’s football journey started in Lugogo with KCCA FC, where he quickly became a fans’ darling. His set pieces, runs down the wing, and pinpoint assists made him one of the most talked-about players in the league.

From KCCA FC, Kizza signed for Major League Soccer side Montréal Impact in 2020 before moving to Arouca (Portugal) in the Portuguese top league.

After enduring a difficult stint in Portugal, Kizza returned to Uganda, where he played for Express FC, from where he left for Egypt’s Telecom SC.

But not everything went as planned in Egypt. In a recent TV interview on NBS Sport, Kizza opened up and admitted he regrets moving to Egypt, saying it didn’t work out like he hoped.

“It wasn’t the right fit. I wasn’t playing much, and I felt like I lost time in my career,” he said.

For many, Kizza’s return to Uganda was expected, but few predicted he’d land at NEC FC. The club has been making quiet but serious moves. After just two seasons in the top flight, NEC is already playing continental football, and they clearly mean business.

Bringing in a player like Kizza shows the club’s ambition, coming in with tons of experience, leadership, and knowing what it means to play under pressure.

All signs point to him being a key player both domestically and as NEC prepares for their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup.

At just 25 years old, Mustafa Kizza still has plenty to offer. His return to local football with NEC FC is more than just a transfer; it’s a fresh start for the former Maroons player.
