Mukono Warriors turned in a polished and assured performance to overcome GM Sugar by 20 runs in the Mukono Regional Men’s T20 final at Florida Cricket Oval, claiming silverware and restoring pride in the process.

The triumph carried extra meaning.

Twelve months earlier, GM Sugar had crushed the Warriors in the Division Two final of the Cricket Uganda 50-Over League, racking up 190 before bowling Mukono out for 104 to seal an 86-run rout. This time, however, Mukono flipped the narrative.

After being put in to bat in the Mukono Regional T20 Cup final, the Warriors made a steady start.

Fahad Mutagana laid the groundwork with a composed 36 from 32 deliveries, finding the boundary four times and clearing the ropes once to anchor the powerplay. His efforts set the stage for Ronald Lutaaya to take control.

Lutaaya compiled a superb 70 off 48 balls, mixing crisp stroke play with calculated aggression.

His eight fours and three sixes kept the innings on track and propelled Mukono past 100 inside 12 overs at 105/1.

Though a brief stumble saw them dip to 119/4, late impetus from Musa Majid Ramathan, who blasted 22 off just 10 balls, alongside Het Pindoria’s unbeaten 25, lifted the total to a challenging 168/6.

GM Sugar’s chase began brightly through Mehul Patel and Simon Ssesazi, but regular wickets stalled their progress.

Bhavesh Patel struck a determined 43 from 39 balls, while Rahul Patel chipped in with a quick 29 to maintain faint hopes.

The turning point came when Robert Arjuna delivered a decisive spell of 3/21 during the middle overs.

Backed by tight overs from Musa Majid and Pindoria, Mukono steadily strangled the scoring rate. With boundaries scarce and the asking rate climbing, GM Sugar finished short at 148/8.

It was a collective effort from the Warriors, with Lutaaya earning Player of the Match honors.

The contest also served as valuable preparation for both teams ahead of the upcoming Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League Division One campaign, following their promotion from Division Two into a more demanding tier.
