Excitement is building in Mukono as Mt St Henry’s Mukono High School prepares to make its debut at the 2025 Girls’ Schools Cricket Week.

The school qualified from the Central Region alongside Gayaza High School, Ndejje SS, and St John’s SS, under the guidance of Coach Fahad Mutagana, a key figure in the Mukono Cricket Community.

Cricket is a relatively new addition to Mt St Henry’s, having been introduced just last year through an initiative led by Simon Kintu, Chairman of the Mukono Cricket Community.

The school embraced the sport with enthusiasm, involving both students and staff in mass participation programs and awarding nine bursaries to talented players, a move aimed at community empowerment and competitive excellence.

The 21st edition of the Sky View Girls’ Schools Cricket Week will run from May 3–10 in Gulu City, marking the first time Northern Uganda hosts the tournament.

Previous editions were held in Soroti City in 2023 and 2024, reflecting the Uganda Cricket Association’s (UCA) broader strategy to grow the game across all regions.

This year’s event will feature 16 top-performing schools from six regions, with Gulu High School acting as the official host at the Northern Cricket Hub.

The tournament remains a cornerstone of UCA’s development pathway for girls, offering a platform for talent discovery, skill development, and regional exposure.

Defending champions Light Secondary School from Soroti return with momentum after toppling three-time champions Olila High School in last year’s final.

Jinja SS (eight-time winners) and Gayaza High School (four-time champions) are among the tournament favorites, while Sacred Hearts SS, semifinalists in their debut last year, hope to capitalize on home support.

The Girls Schools Cricket Week boasts a rich legacy, having nurtured some of Uganda’s finest female cricketers and sparked widespread regional enthusiasm for the game.

Over the years, the tournament has grown into a vital platform for developing talent and promoting girls’ cricket across the country.

Past Champions:

Gayaza High School – 2001, 2002, 2005, 2011

City High School – 2003, 2004, 2006

Kololo SS – 2015

Light SS – 2024

The tournament was not held in 2007, 2009, 2020, and 2021 due to various disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
