Uganda U20 National Football team, the Hippos head coach Morley Byekwaso says he has concentrated more on improving the fitness of his players for the past three days ahead of the AFCON U20 tournament in Mauritania.

After booking their slot at the U-20 tournament after winning the CECAFA regional qualifiers in December, the Hippos began official training on Thursday, January 21, at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

“We have so far been training for three days and my main focus is how to improve on the fitness levels of my players,” Morley Byekwaso told FUFA Media before adding,

“Most of these players have been away since the Uganda Premier League came to  a standstill in December so they are not physically fit.”

Byekwaso also revealed that he intends to reduce on the squad on Monday to a manageable number.

“Tomorrow, I will reduce on the squad to a number we can manage as we prepare for a friendly game on Wednesday against KCCA FC before we can come up with the final 25 for the tournament.”

This is Uganda’s first time to qualify for the continental showpiece which will kick off on February 14 in Mauritania.
