Match Report: Mutyaba, Ssekisambu net as KCCA closes in on Vipers


Mike Mutyaba and pacy foward Erisa Keith Ssekisambu scored for KCCA FC  in the first half to help them the Lugogo side close SC Vipers points margin at the top to only 2 points.

Maroons started with dangerous attacks through their star player Pius Obuya and center forward Steven Mukwala as KCCA FC sat back and studied the intensity of the game.

As the match went by, the hosts started dominating play with its short and long passes initiated by midfieders Gift Ali and returning Kizito Kezlon.

In the 21st minute of the game through end to end attacks by the hosts, Mike “Sulaiman” Mutyaba scored an opener for KCCA FC after versatile player Herbert Achai’s dummy to Maxwell okello, Achai passed the ball to Erisa Ssekisambu out side the 18 yards area who set the ball to Mike Mutyaba for a powerful shot in the top right corner that left Maroons shot stopper Hannington Ssebwalunyo helpless.

Maroons, with help of their head coach Douglas Bamweyana pushed for an equalizer but KCCA did their defensive works very well.

In the 37th minute of the game Kezilon Kizito made an assist to Erisa Ssekisambu  with well built through pass that left Maroons center backs Sylvester Okello and Maxwell Okello with no option but running behind Erisa who converted from a close range with only goal keeper Ssebwalunyo to beat.

With 2 goals advantage for the hosts, center referee Rajab Bakasambe called the game for the break.

On the return of the last stanza, Maroons had better opening minutes and they dominated the game with some good scoring chances for Pius Obuya, Steven Mukwala and Abraham Tusubira but their efforts were well denied by KCCA goal keeper Charles Lukwago.

KCCA FC made some changes later in the second half, coach Mike Mutebi withdrew  Mike Mutyaba for Opio Sunday while Kizito Kezilon paved way for Ibrahim Sadam Juma who was returning from injury.

Maroons brought in Fred Amaku for Abraham Tusubira, and this added speed to Maroons front line and  in the 67th minute, they got a consolational goal after Amaku’s shot deflected off Peter Magambo  into his own goal.

Before this game,  KCCA FC had 41 points in  20 games while Vipers SC were  atop of the log with 46 points in 20 games but this KCCA win, took them to 44 points, 2 below the leaders
