Kiprop bags gold at the Cardiff Cross Challenge

Uganda’s Kenneth Kiprop won gold at the 26th edition of the men’s Cardiff Cross Challenge in the Welsh capital.

The 9.6km race was a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold event and took place on Saturday 11th, November 2023.

Kiprop (28:32) shoved off competition from the Kenyan Vincent Mutai (28:35), the winner of the Cardiff Half Marathon in October won bronze, Ethiopia’s Abele Bekele Alemu came in 3rd (29:06).

Kiprop, 18 finished 6th in the U20 race at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst in February, finished 15th in the road mile at the World Road Running Championships in October.

The field included athletes from more than 10 countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, UK and others, competing at the UK’s only World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold Label Event. Kiprop was Uganda’s only representative at the event.

Next on Sunday 12th,November 2023, three Ugandan Athletes will be in action in the Spanish City of Seville at the fourth Gold standard meeting in the current World Athletics Cross Country Tour, the Cross Internacional de Itálica.

First in the women’s race will be Anne Chelangat and in the men’s 2022 world 5000m bronze medallist 21 year old Oscar Chelimo and Martin Kiprotich will be holding the Ugandan flag. All these three will be competing in over a 9.9km distance.
