Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) celebrated a momentous milestone, reaching 100 years of promoting athletics excellence in the country by organizing the 31st Edition of the National Cross-Country Championships under the theme Celebrating and Sustaining Athletics Excellence,”

Onto the D-day, World Champion Kenneth Kiprop triumphed at the Championships held on Saturday at Tororo Golf Club, securing first place in the men’s senior 10km race.

Kiprop, known for his prowess in long-distance running, finished the race in an impressive time of 29 minutes and 28 seconds.

This victory, marking another milestone in his illustrious career, came after a thrilling race where Kiprop expressed his surprise and joy at crossing the finish line first.

In an interview following his win, Kiprop shared his emotions, saying, “Oh my God. At first, I couldn’t believe that I won this year’s title. I like the crowd; they cheered so much. They gave me a lot of morale.”

The support from the passionate spectators clearly played a crucial role in Kiprop’s victory, fuelling his determination and boosting his spirits throughout the race.

His achievement at the National Cross Country Championships adds to his growing legacy as a world-class athlete.

While still celebrating this victory, Kiprop remained humble and focused on future challenges.

With a deep sense of gratitude, he acknowledged the importance of his coaches and the support he receives from those around him.

“I still have a lot of things to do in the future,” he remarked, hinting at his aspirations for even bigger accomplishments, including at the Olympics and World Championships.

On the Ladies’ side Sarah Chelangat was the hero in the 10 Km race, clocking 33 minutes and 50 seconds.
